What are the requirements for renting a self-drive car?
Bring the originals of these on pickup day. Photocopies or phone photos aren’t enough for us to release the car. Every driver on the booking, including any additional driver, needs to bring them.
Age and license
- You must be at least 21 for cars and motorcycles, and at least 30 for vans and SUVs.
- Aged 21 or 22? We may still be able to rent to you with written approval. A Young Driver Fee applies and is quoted when you book.
- Your driver’s license must have been valid for at least 1 year. For motorcycles, it must carry the correct restriction code.
Philippine license holders
- Your valid physical Philippine driver’s license.
- If you secure your deposit by credit card pre-authorization in your name, that’s all you need.
- If you pay your deposit by cash, GCash, Maya or QR Ph, also bring one more valid government ID, plus an original proof of billing or a company ID.
Foreign license holders
- Your valid physical foreign driver’s license. It must be in English, or come with an official English translation or an International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Your valid passport.
- A foreign license is honored for 90 days from your arrival in the Philippines. After that you’ll need a Philippine license.
Payment and deposit
- The rental fee is paid in full on or before pickup.
- There is also a refundable security deposit. The amount is shown in your Rental Details, and you can secure it by credit card pre-authorization, cash, GCash, Maya or QR Ph.
Does Saferide Car Rental offer vehicle delivery to my location?
Yes, Saferide Car Rental offers convenient vehicle delivery directly to your home, office, or hotel. This service is available for an additional delivery fee, which is calculated based on your specific distance and location. Please contact our support team for a delivery quote.
How to arrange delivery:
Request in Advance: We recommend providing at least 24 hours’ notice to ensure availability.
Short-Notice Requests: We may be able to accommodate last-minute delivery requests depending on current fleet availability; please contact our customer support team directly to check for open slots.
How much is the refundable security deposit for Saferide Car Rental?
The refundable security deposit (or cash bond) for a Saferide Car Rental self-drive vehicle ranges from ₱10,000.00 to ₱35,000.00. The exact required amount depends on the specific car, SUV, van, or motorcycle model you choose to rent.
This deposit is required at the time of vehicle collection and can be secured using a major Credit Card, GCash, Maya, or via cash bond if arranged in advance with our support team.
Can foreign nationals drive in the Philippines using a foreign driver’s license?
Yes, foreign nationals may drive in the Philippines using a valid driver’s license issued by their home country for up to 90 days from their most recent date of arrival.
Important Requirements:
English Language: If your driver’s license is not printed in English, you must carry an official International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official English translation obtained from your embassy or consulate.
Original Documents: You must always have your original, valid foreign driver’s license (and IDP/translation, if applicable) with you when driving.
Staying Longer than 90 Days: If you intend to stay and continue driving in the Philippines beyond the 90-day period, you are required to obtain a Philippine Driver’s License from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Note: While an International Driving Permit (IDP) is a helpful translation tool, it does not serve as a substitute for your primary driver’s license. Always carry both documents together.
What insurance coverage options does Saferide Car Rental offer?
Basic cover is already included in every self-drive car rental.
1. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Covers damage to the car’s body. If the car is damaged, you pay only the participation fee (deductible) shown in your Rental Details, which is ₱10,000 to ₱35,000 depending on the vehicle.
Not covered by CDW. You pay these in full:
- Windscreen, glass, mirrors and lights
- Tires and wheels
- Interior damage
- Undercarriage damage, including an EV’s battery pack
- Engine, electrical or battery damage from driving through flooded roads
- Personal belongings left in the car
If a typhoon, flood or other natural disaster damages the car, the CDW participation fee still applies.
2. Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)
Covers third-party property damage up to ₱100,000 and third-party bodily injury up to ₱100,000.
3. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Covers accidental injury or death up to ₱50,000 per person, for up to the vehicle’s seating capacity. PAI is not available for motorcycle rentals.
Keep your cover valid
Your insurance is void if:
- an accident, damage or theft isn’t reported to us right away, together with a police report, a copy of your driver’s license, and your passport if you’re a foreign renter;
- or someone not named on your rental was driving.
